Step 2: See that facet of your life as a gift, and assess ways to harness it for good.
Step 3: Empower friends or family members to nudge you when you drift away from your sweet spot.
Step 4: Notice others with the same character trait, and come alongside them. You might be the right person to help them avoid the extremes and take full advantage of their power.
Like Agur, if you trust God with your weakness, you just might find a satisfying symmetry for your life.
Whether youâre slothful or a workaholic, ask God to help you find that sweet spot balance of work and rest. If youâre a control freak, youâll want to find a career path or avocation that requires an impassioned organizer, but ask the Lord to help you consciously let some things slide once in a while. Maybe you have a troubled relationship with food, leaning toward either deprivation or overindulgence. Thatâs a tough one, but with Godâs help, you can find a healthy balance.
No one is saying itâs always easy to live in contentment with who you are and in every circumstance. From the outside looking in, moderation may even seem boring. But itâs not at all. In fact, itâs freeingâespecially when you invite God to help you find your sweet spot. Expect to find joy in having things just right.
Whichever character trait causes you to transgress, there may be a constant push and pull against extremes. Like Agur, youâll want to identify when and where you are most likely to feel Satanâs tug. In some cases, you may want to solicit help from a counselor, accountability partner, pastor, or trusted family member.
When you find your balance, continue to pray for Godâs protection. Pray that you never forget Satanâs seductive power, because he is always just around the corner. But pray also to cast your cares on the Lord. Trust Him for shelter in any emotional storm. Trust Him for your daily bread.
This is Godâs sweet spot for your life.
The last two chapters of this little book expand on the benefit and bonus of living in that sweet spot. But before that, letâs finish our eye-opening exploration of Proverbs 30.
